Two Chances to See Pierce Freelon This Weekend
On Friday, Aug. 23, head to The Willard Rooftop at 10 a.m. for storytime with two-time Grammy-nominated artist, picture book author, and children’s podcaster, Pierce Freelon. Bring the kids up to the seventh floor for family-friendly fun and stories on their open-air terrace with unmatched views of Downtown Raleigh.
On Saturday, Aug. 24, Museum Park Concerts for Kids (NCMA’s new outdoor performance series for young audiences) hosts its inaugural concert featuring Pierce Freelon, whose joyful music blends hip-hop, electronic jazz, and soul. His modern and dynamic sound is inspired by his journey as a millennial dad and crafted for today’s modern families.
Lazy Daze Kid Daze
Worth the quick drive to Downtown Cary, the Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival is Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24 and 25. The festival features over 250 exceptional artists from across the country! Enjoy live entertainment on four stages, savor delicious offerings from 25+ food vendors, and relax in their beer garden and Lazy Lounge. Kids will love Kid Daze with fun activities throughout including the new Kid Collectors Market, where they can purchase pint-sized pieces created by Lazy Daze artists!
A Pirate at Packapalooza™
While I cannot say that I “back the Pack,” (Go Pirates!) I can say that my kids and I are fans of Packapalooza™. NC State’s Packapalooza™ is a vibrant all-day block party and street festival that caps off Wolfpack Welcome Week on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 2 to 10 p.m., commencing the academic year with a bang. NC State students, faculty, staff, alums, families, and members of the local community pack Hillsborough Street for a day filled with music, entertainment, family-friendly activities, food, and more.
Seven Kid-Friendly Spots to Grab a Drink in Raleigh
My good friend Elliott Harrell just did some thorough research and wrote an awesome article on the seven best kid-friendly spots to grab a drink around Raleigh. I can honestly say, I’ve been to them all, and I love every single one! As Elliott puts it, “These seven spots in and around Raleigh tick three key boxes for choosing a place to have a drink when you’ve got offspring in tow—a space for kids to safely roam around, at least one kid-friendly snack option, and plenty of great drink options for you.”
My favorites from the list are Bowstring, Nickelpoint, and Standard… but really, they’re all amazing!
Kids Night at a’Verde Concina + Tequila Every Thursday
I know, I know, this is my second Cary shoutout this week, but I had to include a’Verde Concina in my round-up! Every Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m., kiddos 10 and under choose any mouthwatering meal for just $0.99. Yes, you read that right, $0.99. They also have face painting, bubbles and sparkler celebrations, and margaritas for the parents. Now that is what I call fun for the whole family!
Friday Five: Are You Busy This Weekend?
Yes, you are going to be busy this weekend because I am bringing you a Friday Five that is all over the place, in the best way possible. Live music, I’ve got it. Good food, you know it! Rocky Horror Picture Show, check. Nerdcore, slightly unexpected, but I am bringing it your way. Without further ado, it’s Friday so let’s get this thing started!
