And they are off… to the bars! This week’s Friday Five is all about the Kentucky Derby, with a contest for your four-legged friends, mixed in. ???? Sit back, grab a Mint Julep, and let us talk derby to you, it’s time for your Friday Five!
Is Your Pooch a Good Dog? ????
Do they always wear their leash and ID tag, stay out of playing fields and playgrounds, and make sure you’re picking up after them? All month long, the Town of Cary, has been hosting a “Who’s a Good Dog?” contest and today is the last day to enter. We know, we know, this is in Cary, not Raleigh, but the prize is worth the quick drive. Head to Bond Park, Hemlock Bluffs, Thomas Brooks Park, the dog parks at Godbold Park and Jack Smith Park, or Downtown Park today and snap a photo of your leash-wearing dog making the “pawmise” to be entered win.
10th & Terrace Opens at Noon on Fridays and Saturdays
Patio season is here and Downtown Raleigh’s rooftop bar, 10th & Terrace, is now opening at noon on Fridays and Saturdays! It’s the perfect way to start the weekend. Cheers! ????
Saturday, May 1: Kentucky Derby Watch Party at Dram & Draught
Our favorite whiskey bar is doing it big for the derby. Dram & Draught will have the race on the big screens inside and outside and juleps will be flowing all day long. A portion of each $12 Woodford Reserve Mint Julep sold on Saturday will be donated to Horsepower Therapeutic Learning Center and CORRAL Riding Academy. Let’s get dressed for the first time in a year and celebrate! Hats and seersucker are highly encouraged.
Saturday, May 1: Kentucky Derby Fancy Hat Party at Raleigh Beer Garden
Head to Raleigh Beer Garden on Saturday at 11 a.m. for horse racing and Mint Juleps. There will be a contest for best hat and prizes will be given away throughout the day! The Kentucky Derby will be playing on all the TVs.
Saturday, May 1: Big Hats & Bow Ties at Nickelpoint Brewing Company
Nickelpoint will be serving their version of the Mint Julep (non-alcoholic version available) and awarding prizes for the best hat. This is an outdoor event and Covid precautions will be in place. Attendees receive a derby packet with tickets good for refreshments and derby dollars for wagering. Ticket sales benefit homeless pets and rescue horses.
