Friday, November 20, 2020: Downtown Raleigh Virtual Tree Lighting

Join Downtown Raleigh Alliance and ABC 11 virtually for the annual Downtown Raleigh Tree Lighting on Friday, November 20, from 5:45 until 6 p.m.

Kick-off the holiday season, get comfy on your couch, and tune in! This year’s pre-recorded virtual program will feature several performances and Mayor Baldwin lighting the tree to ring in the season in Downtown Raleigh. This holiday season, get your holiday photos with the tree in front of the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts which will light up beginning on Friday, Nov. 20 along with festive snowflake lights on Fayetteville Street.

Saturday, November 21, 2020: Art of the Blend at The Overlook at Residence Inn Raleigh Downtown

Have you ever wanted to step into the role of the “winemaker” and create your own wine? Now you can! Join Queen of Wines founder Laure Levesque at The Overlook to explore how to leverage qualities unique to each grape varietal to create unique wine blends.

During this interactive, educational, and entertaining tasting workshop, you will play with three single varietal wines made from some of the top red varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec) to create different “Bordeaux style blend”, referencing the red blends produced in this world-famous wine region.

Each participant will be getting a wine package of three bottles of each wine, as well as a beaker and a tasting profile for every single varietal. Laure Levesque will give participants key information and tools to approach blending in an “educated way” and better understand the aim of it, do’s/don’ts, as well as what each varietal brings to the blend. She will also talk about wine and food pairing, and how certain types of blends can better complement certain types of food.

Participants will be invited to continue this unique and playful experience by creating their original blends. Each “team” will be asked to submit their favorite blend to a judging panel who will announce the winning blend at the end of the workshop.
