While this event is still quite a few weeks away, I’m giving you a heads-up this week so you can buy your tickets now and not miss out on the garden spectacular. (Thanks to Raleigh Weekend reader and my longtime PR pal Matt Lail for the tip on this upcoming can’t-miss calendar happening!)
Historic Oakwood is well-known for its lovingly restored historic homes, which are featured on its annual December Candlelight Tour, however, the gardens surrounding these homes are equally welcoming and lovely. Just as each home has its own personality, so do their gardens. The 34th Annual Oakwood Garden Tour, sponsored by the Oakwood Garden Club, is Saturday, April 15, 2023, and Sunday, April 16, 2023. The private gardens open on this year’s walking tour range from small, intimate patio settings to large gardens and even include a babbling pond.
You are sure to find inspiration for your own garden while enjoying tea and refreshments from local establishments such as Tin Roof Teas, Yellow Dog Bread Co., and Posh Nosh Catering, among others.
Before you even begin your tour of the gardens, why not sign up for an experience to create your own Fascinator or Boutonniere? Fascinators are the quirky headpieces favored by British royalty at the BEST garden parties. Last year’s fascinator experience featuring lovely flowers was a hit with all attendees! Come create a fascinator for the first time or add one to your own collection. All supplies and instructions will be provided as well as refreshments from Side Street Restaurant and a Hibiscus mocktail.
After touring the gardens, boost your creativity even further and stop by The Pocket Gallery on Bloodworth Street for a free micro-workshop that celebrates the art of flowers, rebirth, and spring. This special art exhibition and community project will be led by Julia Einstein, the Artist in Residence at Raleigh City Farm.
Register soon because space is limited. Tickets for the Fascinator or Boutonniere Experience combined with the Walking Tour are $45 per person and must be purchased by April 12, 2023. Tickets for Walking Tour Only are $25 per person while supplies last. This event is held rain or shine.
