These Three Events Are Lighting up the Night

No matter your entertainment style, we’ve got a bevy of options for you to pick from to light up your Friday night on June 10, 2022!

For the Outdoorsy Type: Fireflies on the Prairie (Be a Scientist)

(And not just outdoorsy that you like to drink on patios… 🙋‍♀️) Head out to Prairie Ridge Ecostation at 8 p.m. for an introduction to fireflies followed by firefly observation and an up-close look at these amazing insects. The event will also collect data for the Firefly Watch citizen science project, so you’ll help contribute data to an important national project!

This program is for ages 8+ and costs $3 per person for North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences members or $5 per person for non-members. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Each attendee will take home a magnifier box and handouts that will help you explore fireflies in your own neighborhood! The Outdoor Classroom is open to the outdoors, but masks are encouraged during our time in the space.

For the Spideyfan: See Spider-Man: No Way Home at the Garner Recreation Center Lawn

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy refreshments from Funnel Cakes by Tonio on the Garner Recreation Center lawn. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to the same time on Saturday. Rumor has it that Spider-Man himself will be spinning through around 8:15 p.m. for pictures with fans! 🕸 This event is free to attend.

Live Theatre Buffs, In the Heights Extended for More Shows

In the Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood—a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. Tickets begin at just $23 for an evening of music by Lin-Manuel Miranda at Raleigh Little Theatre!
